Day 3: Nuremberg to Vienna

We woke up early once again in Numerberg. Considering the amount of kids at the campsite we were one of the first awake. The anticipation of the promised fresh bakery van arriving at 7:45am had us all eager. We were not disappointed and bought a selection of fresh doughnuts, rolls and pretzels.

We were out on the road not long after that and were headed towards Austria. Europe seems to have endless motorways and one game we have started playing is the number plate game. We have seen so many countries but only a few from the UK. This game has led up to wonder why the number plate country identifier for Austria is A when really it should be O as the German word for Austria is Ostereich. Any clues?

As we headed into Austria we started to see hills on the horizon and the weather was as good as ever. It was excellent driving. We stopped a few times for driver changes (we all agreed on 2 hour driving shifts each) and to buy the vignette. The vignette is a sticker you must purchase before driving on Austria roads. There are big fines if you forget so we pulled over at a petrol station in Germany just before the border and purchased a week long vignette for a mere 9 euros!

It was quite an East driving day of around 6 hours and thanks for Google maps we found the campsite easily. It was a great location in the suburbs of Vienna with a train station next door which took us into the heart of the city.

Tom, being his 3rd time in Vienna, gave us a grand tour with excellent commentary. We got to see the cathedral, Spanish riding school, opera house and are amazing cakes at the famous cafe Central. After a few hours of sightseeing in the sun we headed back to camp and ate traditional Wiener schnitzel and potato salad in the camp cafe. Once again traditional food did not disappoint!

Another early night awaited Team Yes We Khan as we planned an early breakfast of baked beans on toast and an early drive towards Hungary
